2024 International Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

Date: 12:30-17:00, November 21th 2024

Venue: E-Building (room 405), MUST

Organizer: Department of Environmental Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Mongolian University of Science and Technology

Aim of the Workshop

The expert workshop aims to invite Mongolian and foreign experts in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation to conduct in-depth research and academic activities. Through this, we aim to foster experts in the field of climate change research and contribute to the development of science and technology.

  1. Climate change adaptation: Climate change adaptation is the process of adjusting to the effects of climate change. These can be both current or expected impacts. Adaptation aims to moderate or avoid harm for people, and is usually done alongside climate change mitigation. Adaptation involves infrastructure, such as stronger bridges to withstand floods, new offices that use less energy or better roads that don’t wash away in storms. It can mean the simple addition of air conditioning in schools in Asia, or be as complicated as installing storm-drain systems throughout an African city. Adaptation ranges from agriculture and education, to healthcare and water supply, to countering desertification and coastal erosion.
  2. Climate change mitigation: In-depth research is needed to reduce greenhouse gases generated from various industrial facilities in Mongolia. It is also necessary to train high-level personnel to build and operate MRVs to calculate and improve the accuracy of Mongolia’s greenhouse gas mitigations.
